This year the annual ABFA UK Quiz Night final was held in at the Counting House in London on 10th November 2011. Twelve teams from the UK that had fought off strong rivalry at the regional heats earlier in the year competed for the illustrious title of 'ABFA Quiz Night Champions 2011'. The excitement of the evening built in line with the spirit of friendly rivalry.
Two weeks earlier, across the water, six teams had competed at the Irish final in Dublin on 27th October at the Guinness Storehouse. Only two points separated the winners, 'Phoenix' - Close Invoice Finance who scored 85 points, from the runners up 'M.C. Discounts' - AIB Commercial Services Ltd.
In London, the scores were even closer as only two points separated the top
five teams 'There is no F in Invoice' - Lloyd's TSB Commercial Finance Ltd were
outright winners and 'Never Been Quizzed' - Bibby Financial Services and 'The
Changelings Last Stand' - HSBC Invoice Finance tied for second place.
The atmosphere on both sides of the water was as one would expect..... bankers
are not only competitive but no more so than when pitted against teams from
within their own companies. Bragging rights are possibly the biggest prize at
stake at these events.
The top two teams were presented with their trophies by Tony O'Grady from Matherson
Ormsby Prentice in Dublin. The London event was sponsored by GoIndustry DoveBid,
and the trophies presented by Kate Sharp from the ABFA. Photos of the evening
in Dublin are placed in our Photo
Gallery in the Members Section of our website.
Congratulations to all who took part and a big thank you to QuizQuizQuiz and to all of our sponsors RSM Tenon, MCR Corporate Restructuring, FRP Advisory, Bridge Business Recovery, Matherson Ormsby Prentice and GoIndustry DoveBid for supporting the events; we look forward to seeing you all again in 2012.

Some of the comments received from the players:
"The winning team was made up of Colm Devine, Cathal Ryan, Tony Duffy,
Brian O'Keeffe, Kevin Boyle and Inga Douglas. Although a few of the boys had
entered the quiz last year we decided to add some girl power at this year's
event to show them how it's done! A fun night was had and we enjoyed the food
and drink along with the craic. We were surprised at how heavy the trophy weighed
but are delighted to show it off in our offices and look forward to returning
next year to defend our title." Close Invoice Finance
"We were just shocked we got so close to winning it, as we thought we'd
scored enough to finish about 5th/6th. At least we beat the other HIF team in
the final!" HSBC Invoice Finance
"We were extremely surprised, but pleased, to win, coming first by
just 1 point; especially considering we only fielded a team of six! Every one
in the team had flashes of brilliance and a couple of good buzzer rounds definitely
helped our overall score. As always we had an excellent evening We will be back
next year!" Lloyds TSB Commercial Finance
