Quiz Night Final 2012
| Competitive spirit and high energy are two key ingredients for any successful quiz night and could certainly be found in abundance at this year’s ABFA Quiz Final 2012, held at the chic City Centre ‘Living Room’ Bar, Deansgate, Manchester. . The 29th November saw eight teams from various locations; Birmingham, London, and Brighton to name a few; gather to test their knowledge against some of the sharpest brains in the ABF industry, and the test would not be easy! Four previous rounds of quiz nights had resulted in this defining evening, seeing off some stiff competition. With questions ranging from 18th Century literature, Politics, Sports and 80’s television and film stars, participants were determined to meet the challenge head on, and with a selection of team names such as ‘The Eagle has Landed’ and ‘Blog Off’, the scene was set for a lively evening. Generously sponsored by FRP Advisory, Lionel Blackledge – head of National Asset Based Lending; introduced the evening’s proceedings, along with the charismatic Quiz Master – Jack Waley-Cohen. Supported by an entertaining mix of visual and audio accompaniments, the teams were kept guessing at every stage and the air was often punctuated with a yell of ‘I know this one!’, or less positively ‘Who on earth would know that?!’ Not to be outdone, the venue contributed greatly to the success of the night. Attendees were treated to the modern surroundings of the city bar and an excellent hot buffet, perhaps serving as much needed fuel for the brain!
By the third leg of the quiz, the buzzer round – participants were fully immersed in the activities and friendly competitiveness had reached its peak, creating a great atmosphere. After six rounds, the excitement was not over yet. In true nail-biting style, the quiz culminated in a tie-breaker between three formidable teams – ‘Diamonds aren’t Forever’, ‘No F in Invoice’ and ‘The Eagle has Landed’. Five general knowledge questions were asked and after a tense few moments, the well -deserved winner was announced as ‘Diamonds aren’t Forever’, with ‘No ‘F’ in Invoice’ in 2nd place and ‘The Eagle has Landed’ in 3rd place. One further prize remained for the team with the best name and, showing that humour, if not a little controversial, always prevails, the victor was announced as ‘Gin’ll Fix It’ and the team were hailed with applause as they were congratulated.
The ABFA would like to thank all the teams who took part in the Quiz Night Final, as well as the teams who have participated in quiz nights throughout the year. Particular thanks are extended to FRP Advisory for sponsoring the event and to Jack, Quiz Master. Congratulations to this year’s winning team ‘Diamonds aren’t Forever’ and to all teams who took part.
